Lyrics: Dost Hai (Girl I Loved you) from Ekk Deewana Tha

Bookmark and Share

And now it’s time for the 2nd song of the album “Ekk Deewana Tha”, and the one I like the most (in this album, that is) – Dost Hai Hum Toh (Girl I Loved You). It’s really an English song, with only 2 Hindi lines thrown in between; just like A R Rahman's song Mahiya from SuperHeavy. I like this song mostly 'coz of the groovy music and the lyrics is cool; totally fits someone I knew.

Though very difficult to understand at one or two points. I did a google and was baffled to find that every single lyrics site has got most of the lines wrong. Everyone is hearing "pain i've got" as "made of god"...!! Com'on, that line was pretty clear. At least use some common sense. Nonethless, I too have some confusions in other few lines. (It's in italics in the lyrics box).

Song: Dost Hai Hum Toh (Girl I Loved You)
Movie: Ek Deewana Tha
Singers: Naresh Iyer, Jaspreet Jasz & Arya
Lyrics: Javed Akhtar
Composer: A R Rahman
(Additional arragements: Sachin-Jigar)
Year: 2012

All in all, this is the most accurate lyrics of the song Dost hai hum from Ekk Deewana Tha.

"Dost hai hum toh" - ye bahana kyun?
Pyaar hai humko ye chhupana kyun?

(Heyyyy....)
You just left me all alone in the Dark (No..)
When you had to leave me, why'd you give me all that's whack.
(Heyyyy....)

Yeah yeah I’m shattered now.
Feeling so battered now.
I’m tryin’ to move, tryin’ to find the groove
But this ain't workin’ somehow.
Used to be a hustler
Shooting guns, making dollars.
Used to be a guzzler
Smokin’ pots sippin hollow
Now all this money ain't helping me to forget
all this pain I've got
(pain I've got)

Voices in my heart

On the walks of life, you come across people who walk with you for a while. They hold your hand, share happiness & sorrows with you, make your journey worth while. You want your life to go on like that. With that person. But what you want might not be that other person's desire too. They are there for a short while only, before they bid you adieu. Leaving behind a wreck.

One such story - told via some of my most favorite lyrics. All the songs are added in the mp3 player at the end of the post. Give it a spin.

Love Songs

Guy sees girl, talks to her, likes her, develops feeling for her -
Ab dil chaahe khamoshi ke hothon pe main likh doon
pyaari si baatein kayi.
Kuch pal mere naam kare woh, main bhi uske naam pe
likhoon mulakaatein kayi.
Pehli hi takni mein bann gayi jaan pe.
Naina waina uske mere dil pe chhape.
Ab jaaun kahan pe, dil ruka hai wahaan pe
jahaan dekh ke mujhe woh aagey badh gaya oye.
Ho rabba main toh mar gaya oye.
Shadayi mujhe kar gaya kar gaya oye. [full song]

Tumhe hai pata, maine pehli baar jo dekha tumhe...
Mujhe ye laga, chaahu bhi to kaise paa sakunga tumhe...
Ho, sapna tha ek din to main hu, tum ho;
Tum dheere se bolo "Tumko apna mana hai"...
Dekho hona hai aur kya...

His feelings for her keeps getting stronger. He wants to express -
I wanna get closer to you,
I need to be closer to you.
I got to tell you how I feel;
Oh baby u'r the only one for me.
Tumhe kaise mai batau, kya mai paa gaya hu..
tum jo mere sath ho.
Mujhko duniya mil gayi hai, Zindagi badal gayi hai...
tum jo mere paas ho.

At last, he confesses to her; though he couldn't explain, even to himself, why he loves her -
Said I can't be just friends, I wanted more.
Said how much I like you, said how I adore. [full poem]

Nigaho me dekho meri jo hai bas gaya,
wo hai tumse milta hu-ba-hu.
Jaane teri aakhein thi yaa baatein thi wajah,
huwe tum jo dil ki aarzoo.
Tum paas ho ke bhi, Tum aas ho ke bhi,
ehsaas hoke bhi apne nahi...
Aise hai humko gile tumse naa jane kyu..
Milo ke hai fasle tumse naa jane kyu...

Khayalo me laakho baatein yu to keh gaya,
bola kuch naa tere saamne.
Huwe na begane bhi tum hoke aur ke,
dekho tum naa mere hi bane.
Afsos hota hai, dil bhi ye rota hai,
sapne sanjota hai, pagla huwa soche ye
hum thei mile tumse naa jane kyu..
Milo ke hai fasle tumse naa jane kyu...

Kaise bataye, kyu tujhko chaahe, yara bata naa paye.
Batein dilo ki, dekho jo baaki, aakhein tujhe samjhaaye.
Tu jaane naa... Tu jaane na...

Lyrics: Don’t worry about me (Break ke baad)

Bookmark and Share

Originally published on 18th Oct 2010. Reviving this to the top of the blog for the time being.

Now that you’ve checked out I’m dog gone crazy from “Action replayy”, time to check out “Don’t worry about me” from Imran Khan [@1mrankhan], Deepika Padukone [@deepikapadukone] starer “Break Ke Baad”.

Break Ke Baad - Imran Khan, Deepika Padukone

To begin with, this song deals with situation after a break-up. But surprisingly and refreshingly, there’s no sadness in it. No rona-dhona, no drama. Yea, the guy is hurt that it is over but he’s looking forward to the future. Unconventional way of dealing with such a situation in a Bollywood song. Like it. Vishal Dadlani rocks this one.

Lyrics of the song follows -

When a heart breaks, the pain it causes can't be described in words. And no one can soothe the ache. Different people deal with it in different ways. Some take up drinking, some smoke, some cut themselves and some do something extreme; all in the hope that the resulting damage/suffering will numb the pain in their heart. But - it's like lighting a match to outshine a midday sun.

Heart in a mess

Disclaimer first off - this is not an entirely original poem. Saw a poem on the facebook page of Mera beta engineer banega. Yea, funny name. This page mostly posts jokes. But once in a while, there are meaningful and heart touching stuff there. Like that poem.

Anyway, I changed the lines here and there. And when I was translating the finished poem, as I post English translation of all the stuff I post on this blog, the literal translation was lacking the feel of the original. Hence instead of translating, created English version of the poem. Compare the Hindi and English versions and let me know which one you like better.

Poem: Dil Aakhir Tu Kyu Rota Hai

Bookmark and Share

This weekend has been particularly tough on me. But in retrospect, guess whatever happened, happened for the best. Learnt a valuable lesson. Some pent up emotions got a release and now am all better. Probably will take some more time to totally 'get back on my feet' but that is to be expected after being invested in someone so deeply.

Broken-ice-heart

There's this short poem of Javed Akhtar from "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara", which I listen to quite often. There are lot of 'Inspirational Quotes' floating around in the cyberspace. I don't pay much attention to them. But this one poem, it is like my life mantra. Life is explained so beautifully in it. You simply can't not love it. If you are heartbroken, if you are feeling blue and want someone to hold you or tell you that "it's gonna be alright", just listen to this. Works better than a charm. Every time.

BTW, this track is not available in the audio CD of the album. This blog is the EXCLUSIVE place in the whole world (most probably), where you are getting to listen to this track; unless u have the DVD or BRD of the movie. 'Like' the Facebook page of the blog and drop a msg on its wall if you wanna download the mp3 of this track.

Poem: In Your Arms Tonight

Bookmark and Share

Alright, so after Wo kehte hai, here's my second poem. A thought/sentence* was circling in my mind for a few days. Thought of turning it into a short, 4 line poem yesterday. But on way to reach this line, previous lines kept coming up and by dawn today, it was a full-blown ballad. :P

walking-together

There's a dialogue in Ranbir Kapoor's next movie "Rockstar" -

Tuute huwe dil se hi sangeet nikalta hai
meaning "Music is born in a broken heart only". Well, I had my share of heartbreaks in the past. But never did I belch poems and shayaris in the past... But this time, just a little wound, and I'm spilling my heart & guts in them. Wonder what will happen if this one ends up in a heartbreak. Hope not. I want this to work.

Anyway, here's the poem -

I look back at the day I confessed
and I wonder whether I did right.
I was all alone, living a lonely life.
You brought colors, you brought light.
Talking to you made my days,
making you laugh made me smile.
Months passed like minutes,
before I knew, it's been a while.

Said I can't be just friends, I wanted more.
Said how much I like you, said how I adore.

And while I was with you, lost in your eyes and sold on your smile, this one song was running through my mind. It was like I was hearing this song in the background….

Poem: Wo kehte hai...

Bookmark and Share

I haven't written anything original in a long long time and had been out of touch of this side of myself. There's been a lot of upheavals in past couple of years and now I stand at a cross-road in my life. One road turns my life around & makes my life worth living. The other one just continues on the same path I've been trading so far, if not more treacherous. Catch is, which path I get to walk on - that is not up to me anymore.

Uncertain Couples

Anyway, one line was in my mind since last Friday. And while I was lazing on my bed this morning, that one line lead to other lines and it took the form of a shayari (romantic poem). And I myself was surprised that it turned out to be quite good without much effort. [Surprised 'coz I always sucked at poetry.] Check it out -

For those who can't read Hindi but can understand it -
Wo kehte hai unhe bhi pyar hai mujhse, par samne aate hai to nazre bhi nahi milate.
Unhe to hai yakeen mere pyar pe, par apne pyar ka wo mujhe yakeen nahi dilate.
Kabhi wo mera hath thaame, meri baho me samaye to mere dil ko bhi sukun pohoche.
Pata chale ye kabhi naa hona hai to sochenge - kash unke rehne ke liye apne tuute dil ko naa silate.

Lyrics: Rabba Main Toh Mar Gaya Oye (Mausam)

Bookmark and Share

Good Mourning. Nah, that’s not a spelling mistake. I meant it to be that way for a special person. And she gets it. You see, it’s her birthday on this 26th. (That date now takes a whole new meaning for me.) And this song is my dedication to her on her special day. Here’s to you, sweets.

Mausam: Shahid+Sonam

After a long time, we have a pure romantic song of falling in love. The feeling of new love when everything looks beautiful, everything sounds musical and you wanna express so many things but don't know how to. That one special person makes your world go round. The lyrics are simply out of the world and Shahid Mallya’s rendering takes it to another level. Once you listen to this track, you can not get it off your mind. It stays with you and makes you wanna fall in love or reminds you of the one you love. And that makes it perfect for my dedication.

Song: Rabba Main Toh Mar Gaya Oye
Movie – Mausam (2011)
Cast – Shahid Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Aditi Sharma
Director – Pankaj Kapoor
Music Composer – Pritam
Lyrics – Irshad Kamil

Ho rabba main toh mar gaya oye.
Shadayi mujhe kar gaya kar gaya oye.
Ho rabba main toh mar gaya oye.
Shadayi mujhe kar gaya kar gaya oye.
