First things first. I absolutely hate this "sequel" fever in Bollywood right now. Does anyone even know the meaning of "sequel"? An entirely different movie with no connection with the original movie doesn't become a sequel just 'coz it has same cast as the original. Sometimes even the cast is not same. What's common in Raaz series and Murder series of movies?? These are just ploy to ride on the success of the original. (There might be exceptions where a sequel movie is really a sequel. Example - Dabanng2). Hence, I don't look forward to any 'sequel' movie in Bollywood. Every movie is a new movie.
That said, I had high expectations from the soundtrack of Aashiqui 2. First because of the name (I guess this is why movie makers reuse the name of hit movies and add 2, 3, 4 to those names. 'Coz people expect them to be good). And secondly, songs of Vishesh films' movies are more or less always good. And I'm glad it doesn't disappoint this time too. The songs are good and have beautiful lyrics. The song in the first teaser - "Tum hi ho" was my instant favorite. Then T-Series released this "Love anthem of the year" song - "Sunn raha hai na". I won't go as far as calling it a love anthem; but there's certainly something about this song that feels powerful. I cried couple of times while singing along. There's another song in this album that makes me sob - "Bhula dena mujhe.... Tujhe jina hai mere bina". Guess I'm a sucker for pain.
Anyway, here's the full lyrics of the song "Sunn raha hai na tu" from Aashiqui 2 and its English translation. Listen to the song in the player, along with other good songs of the album.
Apne karam ki kar adayen
Yaara, Yaara, Yaara.
[Dunno what this means exactly]
Mujhko iraade de
Kasamein de, vaade de
Meri duaaon ke ishaaron ko sahare de
Dil ko thikaane de
Naye bahaane de
Khaabon ki baarishon ko
Mausam ke paimaane de
Apne karam ki kar adayen
Kar de idhar bhi tu nigaahein
Give me some motive,
swear to me, promise me;
lend your strength to my prayers.
Give my heart a destination
give it new excuses.
[Someone translate next three line for me.]
Gaze at me with your eyes.
Sunn raha hai na tu
Ro raha hoon main.
Sunn raha hai na tu
Kyun ro raha hoon main.
Sun raha hai na tu
Ro raha hoon main.
Sun raha hai na tu
Kyun ro raha hoon main.
Are you listening,
I am crying.
You are listening, right?
(that) Why am I crying.
Are you listening,
I am crying.
You are listening, right?
(that) Why am I crying.
Manzilein ruswaa hain
Khoya hai raasta.
Aaye le jaaye
Itni si iltazaa
Yeh meri zamaanat hai
Tu meri amaanat hai.. haan
Apne karam ki kar adayen
Kar de idhar bhi tu nigaahein
Destinations are angry with us,
the path is lost.
I wish someone comes
and takes us there.
This is my collateral.
You are mine forever.
[something something]
Gaze at me with your eyes.
Sun raha hai na tu
Ro raha hoon main.
Sun raha hai na tu
Kyun ro raha hoon main.
Are you listening,
I am crying.
You are listening, right?
(that) Why am I crying.
Are you listening,
I am crying.
You are listening, right?
(that) Why am I crying.
Waqt bhi thehraa hai
Kaise kyun yeh hua.
Kaash tu aise aaye
Jaise koi dua.
Tu rooh ki rahat hai
Tu meri ibaadat hai...
Apne karam ki kar adayen
Kar de idhar bhi tu nigaahein
Time is standing still
Why and how this happened?
Wish you come to me
like a prayer.
You bring calmness to my soul.
You are in my prayers.
[something something]
Gaze at me with your eyes.
Sun raha hai na tu
Ro raha hoon main.
Sun raha hai na tu
Kyun ro raha hoon main
Sun raha hai na tu
Ro raha hoon main.
Sun raha hai na tu
Kyun ro raha hoon main.
Yaaraaa....
Are you listening,
I am crying.
You are listening, right?
(that) Why am I crying.
Are you listening,
I am crying.
You are listening, right?
(that) Why am I crying.
Yea, when you read it in English, it doesn't make much sense or sound beautiful. If someone can come up with a better translation, I'll use that instead and give him/her credit.
