Poem: Aaj Bhi Baaki Hai

क्या कहें इस खेल को जो तुने मेरे साथ खेला है,
तुझे खुस देखने के लिए हर सितम हमने झेला है.
कभी पा ही नहीं सका तुम्हे तो आज जुदाई कैसी,
हम अकेले भी तनहा थे और आज तनहा भी अकेले है.
तेरी मोहब्बत के निशाँ आज भी बाकी है,
तेरे इंतज़ार में कुछ सांस आज भी बाकी है.
क्या हुआ अगर देख कर मुह फेर लेते हो,
ये तसल्ली तो हुई के कुछ पहचान आज भी बाकी है.

Poem: Phir Ek Cigarette Jala Raha Hu

When a heart breaks, the pain it causes can't be described in words. And no one can soothe the ache. Different people deal with it in different ways. Some take up drinking, some smoke, some cut themselves and some do something extreme; all in the hope that the resulting damage/suffering will numb the pain in their heart. But - it's like lighting a match to outshine a midday sun.

Disclaimer first off - this is not an entirely original poem. Saw a poem on the facebook page of Mera beta engineer banega. Yea, funny name. This page mostly posts jokes. But once in a while, there are meaningful and heart touching stuff there. Like that poem.

Anyway, I changed the lines here and there. And when I was translating the finished poem, as I post English translation of all the stuff I post on this blog, the literal translation was lacking the feel of the original. Hence instead of translating, created English version of the poem. Compare the Hindi and English versions and let me know which one you like better.

फिर एक सिगरेट जला रहा हु,
फिर एक तीली बुझा रहा हु.

तेरी नज़र में मै बिगड़ रहा हु.
मैं तो तेरे वादे भुला रहा हु.

समझना मत इसको मेरी आदत,
मैं तो बस एक दर्द को दुसरे से दबा रहा हु.


Poem: Dil Aakhir Tu Kyu Rota Hai

This weekend has been particularly tough on me. But in retrospect, guess whatever happened, happened for the best. Learnt a valuable lesson. Some pent up emotions got a release and now am all better. Probably will take some more time to totally 'get back on my feet' but that is to be expected after being invested in someone so deeply.

There's this short poem of Javed Akhtar from "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara", which I listen to quite often. There are lot of 'Inspirational Quotes' floating around in the cyberspace. I don't pay much attention to them. But this one poem, it is like my life mantra. Life is explained so beautifully in it. You simply can't not love it. If you are heartbroken, if you are feeling blue and want someone to hold you or tell you that "it's gonna be alright", just listen to this. Works better than a charm. Every time.

Poem: In Your Arms Tonight

Alright, so after Wo kehte hai, here's my second poem. A thought/sentence* was circling in my mind for a few days. Thought of turning it into a short, 4 line poem yesterday. But on way to reach this line, previous lines kept coming up and by dawn today, it was a full-blown ballad. :P

There's a dialogue in Ranbir Kapoor's next movie "Rockstar" -

Tuute huwe dil se hi sangeet nikalta hai

meaning "Music is born in a broken heart only". Well, I had my share of heartbreaks in the past. But never did I belch poems and shayaris in the past... But this time, just a little wound, and I'm spilling my heart & guts in them. Wonder what will happen if this one ends up in a heartbreak. Hope not. I want this to work.

Anyway, here's the poem -

I look back at the day I confessed
and I wonder whether I did right.
I was all alone, living a lonely life.
You brought colors, you brought light.
Talking to you made my days,
making you laugh made me smile.
Months passed like minutes,
before I knew, it's been a while.

Said I can't be just friends, I wanted more.
Said how much I like you, said how I adore.

Standing alone in the crowd

Standing alone in the crowd,
When I look around,
I don’t find anyone near me,
'Coz I don’t want anyone in my vicinity.

Something is dead inside me,
I think my heart, my soul,
But something excruciates me from within,
I don’t know what, I don’t know why.

I am not compassionate any more,
Not enamored by anything anymore,
This feeling is incessant,

This is the crux of my life,

Since I don't have YOU

When a boy makes a girl jealous

Someone forwarded me this poem / story in Orkut. It's really very touchy. Have a look -

A boy liked a girl but wanted to make her jealous.


Then one day things went terribly wrong.
The next few weeks were like a very sad song.

He made her jealous on purpose he tried.
When the girl asked, "Do you love me?" on purpose he lied.

He played with jealousy like it was a game.
Little did he know things would never be the same.

His plan was working but he had no clue -
how wrong things would go, the damage he would do.

One night she broke down, feeling very alone.
Just her and the blade, no one else home.

She dialed his number, he answered, "Hello"
She told him she loved him and hung up the phone.

He raced to her house just a minute too late.
Found her lying in blood, her heart had no rate.

Beside her was a note, in it her confession.
Her love for this boy, her only obsession.

As he read the note, he knelt down and cried.
Grabbed her knife, that night they both died.

She was found in his arms, both of them dead.
Under her note his handwriting said:


"I loved her so, she never knew.
All this time She loved me too."


So, guys n gals, if U really love someone - Go tell them. Don't keep it to yourselves or wait for the 'right time'. It could get too late. Just do it.

I thought 'bout U today

I thought about you today,
And for the 1st time -
it wasn't about the past, or the lies.
it wasn't about the hurt, or the tears.
It wasn't about my broken heart
or what I used to wish the future would be.
It was about end to all that;
And the beginning of a friendship.
So, I donno why people say
LOVE NEVER ENDS IN FRIENDSHIP....!!
Because mine for you has....

लोग कहते है मोहब्बत मे हम मर जायेंगे, राह कैसी भी हो हम गुजर जायेंगे, तुम सितम करके मोहब्बत को ना मिटा पाओगे, हम सितम सह कर भी तेरे दिल मे उतर जायेंगे.
पलकों पे सपने सजा लें, तुम कहो तो मुस्कुरा लें, ये जिन्दगी - जिन्दगी सी लगे, अगर हम तुम्हे पा लें.		हमही मे थी वो बात, जो याद ना तुम को आ सके, तुम ने हमें भुला दिया, पर हम तुम्हे ना भुला सके.

ज़मीं मे कोई नमी नही है, फूलों के आँचल मे कोई कमी नही है, मेरी मोहब्बत को ठुकरा ना देना, क्यों कि मेरी मोहब्बत मे कोई कमी नही है.

कैसा अजीब ज़माना है, कौन समझा किस ने जाना है, काश वो हम से जुदा ना होते, जिनके लिए ये दिल आज भी दीवाना है.

हम ने तो जान लूटा दी प्यार में,
महबूब ने ही धोखा दे दिया,
हम ने तो खुशियाँ मांगी थी,
उस ने ही जिन्दगी भर का गम दे दिया.

कभी-कभी दिल ज़रूर रोता है, जब कोई मिल कर नज़रों से दूर होता है, इस लिए रोती है कमबखत आंखें, क्यों कि दिल से ज़्यादा इनका कसूर होता है.

दिल कि चोटों ने कभी चेन से ना रहने दिया,
जब चली सर्द हवाये मैंने तुझे याद किया,
इस का रोना नही क्यों तुमने याद किया,
इस का गम है कि बहुत देर में बरबाद किया.
तेरी बेरुखी देखी ज़माने का गम देखा,
ज़माने कि तड़प देखी जुदाई का गम देखा,
हज़ारों गर्दिशे टूटी,
ना हम टूटे ना ये दिल टूटा.

महफिल बनी रहे युही तुम्हारी, चाहे बिखर जाये ये जिन्दगी हमारी, दीवानगी इस क़दर बढ़ गयी है, के सह ना पाए एक पल जुदाई तुम्हारी.

उन्हें भी हम से मोहब्बत हो ज़रूरी तो नही,
एक सी दोनो कि हालत हो ज़रूरी तो नही,
बदली बदली सी नज़र आती है दुनिया हम को,
इस मे उनकी भी इनायत हो ज़रूरी तो नही,
जिस को कहते है मोहब्बत है खुदा कि नेहमत,
सब कि किस्मत मे ये दौलत हो ज़रूरी तो नही,
चांद छूने कि तमन्ना तो हम को भी है,
